PAGE TWO THE MICHIGAN DIAILY WEDfNESDlAY '~R~' . V. EW * ri S : .. Offers Year s Study in ,Jerusalem 0 ENDING THURSDAY DIAL 5-6290 Shows at 1, 3, 5, 7 & 9 P.M. By JOYCE WINSLOW The Hebrew University of Jeru- salem is flow accepting applica- tions from college sophomores and grad students to study in Israel next year. The program is under the aus- pices of the American Friends of the Hebrew University. It was es- tablished twelve years ago to en- able American students to savor another culture at first hand. Although knowledge of Hebrew is not a prerequisite for submit- ting an application, an applicant must show evidence of current Hebrew study before he can be accepted. This is because all courses given at the university are in Hebrew. In order to acquire a working. knowledge of the lan- guage, students will. live on an U.lpan, or language institute, for three. months prior to their aca- demic year. The Ulpan has proven to be a unique institute for lan- guage teaching. Past results have shown that the Ulpan gives the student pro- ficient knowledge of, Hebrew such that he can 'speak, read and 'write like a native. A student can write his final exams in English, though, if he chooses.. The total cost of the fuil-year's program is estimated at $2300. Scholarships are available. Accommodations are provided in university dormitories throughout the entire year. During the Ulpan period, students share rooms with other Americans. For the rest of the year they may be the room- mates of Israeli students. Lectures on various aspects of Israel's economic, political, and cultural life are given by mem- bers of the faculty and by guest lecturers. Tours throughout the country are conducted by members of the University's staff. Students interested in applying to the University can obtain in- formation and application forms from Mr. Yuchtman. Applications. are due January 15, but extensions will be granted by Mr. Yuchtman. I I DIAL. 662-6264 STARTING WEDNESDAY Ladies' Day Wed. 50c till 6 P.M.
