Beware, ye incredulous, it is but the forerunner of a torrent of new styles. Gone is the cream-puff bouffant. Gone too is the all- American girl, shoulder length flip. But what will stand in their stead? Current fashion is now looking beyond its own narrow limits -to the greater world of :culture be- yond. Note the rush of gowns fashioned along the abstract lines of the artist, Mondrian. Note too the rapidity with which pop and op art designs- have been incor- porated onto wearing appearal. It is somewhat unsettling to find that hamburgers, Campbell's Soup, and Elizabeth Taylor have replac- ed the demure ruffles which once graced the bodice. Is it not conceivable that hair fashion too can loot the wealth of creativity found in the world of culture. Why not shave the head into neat squares and produce cranial op art? Why limit streak- ing - to the tiresome black-on white? Streak it red, yellow, and green, arrange it in artful chaos and behold-animated Jackson Pollack. But must we limit our- selves to the world of visual arts? How about a style based on atonal strains of Hindemith. The more conservative could have neat curls taken from a more sedate Bach organ concerto. And now the world is ours. Wings fashioned from the Bird, feathers from the Chicken, a leash for a head-band and we have Walking the Dog. And what of the Monkey, the Frug??? The secret lies in cosmetics which sculpt and mold a woman's face into an appearance of magnificent symetry. A truly marvelous face is underlined with a strong, well proportioned bone structure: the narrow nose, the high rising cheek bones, and the clean rounded chin. But what the human eye sees is really only a pattern of light and' shadows created by the bones. If the face cannot have the true boning, then it can at least YARNS RUG MAKING jJ ONEEDLEPOINT KNITTING Supplies O INSTRUCTION BOOKS Call Ann Arbor BUTTONS, ETC. It is the same theory which artists throughout the ages have used to create the feeling, if not the real- ity, of the three dimensions on a flat canvas. The array of brushes, tubes, cakes, and powders which are used to accomplish this facial magic, would please any Rembrandt. White foundation is applied along the bridge of the nose, at the upper and outer limits of the eye- lids, and along the rim of the cheekbones. These strong stripes are then blended with increasingly dark colors until the hollows un- der the cheekbones, at the temples, and the edge of the nose are credited with shades of deep beige or even blues. The result is the sculptured face of a classic statue, with fresh from the factory con- tours. However, this type of cosmetic art is not limited to the face. The tiny tot hemlines of this year's fashions have created demand for acquiline knees, as well. Several enterprising firms are forging head on into this market with special knee make-up. If the trend con- tinues, chances look good for a playboy bunny in every pot. v- -JK' /h a Pin e r ~Steten.4 S0 ? ir nc. of Ann Arbor 209 EAST LIBERTY IMPREVU IS HERE and you'll never be the same PARFUM (imported from France) 1/4 ounce, $7.50; 1/2 ounce, $15.00; 1 ounce, $25.00 PURE PARFUM SPRAY PURSER .. ..... . 1/6 ounce, $5.00 PARFUM de TOILETTE 1 1/2 ounce, $3.50; 3 ounces, $6.00; 6 ounces, $10.00 PARFUM de TOILETTE PURE SPRAY ........ 2 ounces, $5.00 DUSTING POWDER.......,..8 ounces, $4.00 the Quarryinc. 320 S.
