BUSINESSMAN SPEA KS:

Bus Ad sciool inaugurates

Exec-in-Residence'

By DEBBIE THIAL
The School of Business Admin-
istration inaugurated their new
"Executive-in-Residence" program
Monday with a series of small
group talks between students and
businessman George Spatta.
Spatta is honorary chairman of
the board of the Clark Equip-
ment Company. He was president
and chairman of the board of the
company for 23 years.

Spatta answered questions on
a variety of subjects ranging frorn
nepotism to the hard core unem-
ployed to hiring and firing prac-
tices. He s soke out particularly
strongly against air and water
pollution. "The big industries
should fix air and water
pollution or be put in jail. Even
if it costs $100 million, they will
have to find the money some-
where, even if it means cutting the
shareholder's profits," he said.

WASHINGTON 0P) - T li e
Nixon administration has found
it more difficult than expected to
fill the shoes of Gen. Lewis B.
Hershey as director of the Selec-
tive Service System.
Last Oct. 10, the White House
announced Hershey would be re-
placed next Feb. 16. The delay
was to give his successor a chance
for on-the-job training as Her-
shey's deputy before taking over
the job.
White House press secretary
Ronald L. Ziegler said at t h a t
time the successor would be nam-
ed "in the near future."
Almost two months later, t h e
estimate had mellowed to: "as
soon as possible."
An informed source confirmed
that the search for a new director
is still on. He rejected the idea
that it is hard to find qualified
people willing to assume the
thankless task.
"There are a number of people
that really want the job," he said.
"We have a couple of highly
qualified people. But it's hard to
find the kind of qualities we're
looking for."
What kind?
They're fairly obvious, said the
source, but for one thing a new
director would have to be "ac-
ceptable to the various constituen-
cies with which he has to deal."
That meant someone who would

1e welcomed--or at least tolerated
-by the nation's draft-age youth
as well as congressional leaders
who oversee the draft.
One possible prospect was Dav-
id O. Maxwell, 39-year-old Penn-
sylvania budget director, who con-
firmed he was in touch with the
White House about a job; neither
he nor the White House would
say whether they discussed t h e
draft post.
But that was over a month ago.
More recently there was a pub-
lished report that President Nixon
had asked Woody Hayes, football
coach at Ohio State University,
to take the job.
Hayes denied it and the White
House explained the mystery: The
President had, indeed, phoned
Hayes but only to congratulate
him on a football victory.
