The Milazzo project has met with objections at the ed school for its failure to involve under- graduate students, aside from the difficulties it faces in De- troit. Bookstore proposal, opposed (Continued from Page 1r dum," he explains, "but we wil do it our way.,, The Regental vote on the book- store hinged on a few Regents changing their minds. Lawrence Lindemer (R-Stock bridge) voted against the book- store in July, but on Friday he voted for the compromise propo sal. Two of the more liberal Regents Otis Smith (D-Detroit) and Ger t r u d e Huebner (R-Bloomfiel Hills) also seemed incensed wits the students at the meeting. TheS were both blasted by Rent Striki Coordinator Peter Denton for fi nancial affiliations with large aut companies and not student o worker concerns. The students, are still consider ing action against the plan. SG( plans to meet tomorrow night t{ decide its position and a mas meeting will be held in the DiaE at 12 p.m. Tuesday to consider what the student positioncshoulc be. Council members seem fairl: unified in opposition to the Re gental method of conducting th referendum and administratio control. McLaughlin says the plan is a present totally unacceptable an( says he willnow only settle fo student domination of the book. store policy-making board. McLaughlin explains "if t hf r'ally and march had not c o m( off, the Regents wouldprobabl3 believe they could have pacifiec the students. This showed then they could not and cannot." An undergraduate urban teaching program was recently recommended by a committee report finished last April, and chaired by Prof. David Angus. Although the report called for initiation of its proposals this semester, Dr. Leonard Sain, the ed school's coordinator for ur- ban programs, admits that "there is nothing implemented in regard to this particular pr-o- posal." He credits the Angus commit- tee with "stirring up a lot of interest", but attributes the delay to time needed to study the recommendations. Sain points to a "field ex- perience" option in Inkster for students who prefer working in a model "urban" population rather than other sites in Ann 1 Arbor, Ypsilanti, and Willow Run. But he says that an inte- s grated course program to ac- company urban field experience is not feasible, since the Ink- - ster project attracted only six - student teachers and about 30 e teaching aides. Another University plan, which was first formulated by , members of a University - De- - troit liaison committee 1 a s t d spring, would provide pre-col- 1 lege instruction by University Y faculty to disadvantaged high e school students. - But Dr. William Cash, t h e o University's co-ordinator f o r human relations, says "the pro- gram is not complete - we're - still working on the details."
