Association President Ed Doher- ty of Denver described Rickey's offer of 40 cents per adult ticket sold in the five cities in one season as "not very attractive." The directors told the com- mittee headed by Doherty to study two indemnity situations-one if the Continental replaces the five franchises with five other cities, another if the remaining three association teams are "left hang- ing in the air." No sums were mentioned in the directions to the committee but the association had been talking $800,- 000 for each franchise lost. Committeemen besides Doherty are Ray Johnston, Indianapolis, Joe Burke, Louisville, and Mel Jones, St. Paul. The Continental proposes to ab- sorb Denver, Houston, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Minneapolis and St. Paul. Before the directors ate lunch and went home, Doherty com- mented, "the Continental League will never get off the ground." He estimated that the remuner- ation to association members, if it loses five franchises, would amount to only about $15,000 for each departing club. The Rickey proposal, to pay 40 cents for each ticket sold by the five cities this season, excluded tickets for women, children, spe- cial nights and season books. Rickey demanded an answer by next Monday but the minor league obviously had no intention of giv- ing him one in the near future. Dove Baiting Made Legal WASHINGTON (P)-A change in the basic migratory game bird hunting regulations which will permit shooting such birds over freshly seeded or, planted fields was announced yesterday. The Interior Department said the change in the provisions re- lating to baiting will particularly affect dove hunting although ap- plies also to ducks and geese. It said the amendment was urged by all delegates at a June 27 meeting on proposed dove hunt- ing regulations for 1960 - 61. Officials of the Southeastern As- sociation of Game and Fish Com- missioners, which represents the principal dove-hunting states, par- ticularly urged the change. They contended that existing baiting regulations are unduly re- strictive and are responsible for unwitting violations by dove hunt- ters. Killebrew shoved Washington in front, leading off the first inning with his 10th home run. Detroit bounced back with three runs in the second on a walk, sin- gles by Norm Cash and Rocky Colavito, an error and an infield out. The Senators loaded the bases; with two out in the second onI singles by Hal Naragon and Jose! Valdivielso, a sacrifice and a walk to Killebrew.
