Buddin would join the club today at Min- nesota. Kaline fractured his right collar- bone May 26 while making a div- ing catch. against the Yankees in New York. Buddin was purchased1 by the Tigers last week from Hous- ton. To make room for them, the1 Tigers optioned righthand pitcher Jerry Casale and outfielder, Purn- all Goldy to Denver. Casale had a 1-2 record this year in 34 innings and had a+ 4.76 earned run average. Goldy joined the Tigers June 12 and had a hot streak at the beginning to help fill the gap+ left by Kaline's absence. He then dropped off and now has .229+ batting average in 70 times at bat as a Tiger. * * * Mackinac Boats Near ABOARD THE COAST GUARD CUTTER MACKINAW-The lead craft in the Chicago-to-Mackinac race were expected to arrive at the Mackinac Island finish line sometime after 11 p.m. last night despite stiff headwinds and a rough, sea. Led by the Class A Mitena, a pack of eight vessels was past Point Betsie at noon yesterday, about 128 miles from the Northern Michigan goal in the 333-mile an- nual summer classic. The front runners were closely spaced in a 10-mile quadrant but with the home stretch remaining, leads of only a few miles were still small enough to berover- come. Mitena had been running seventh at mid-morning. Closely bunched behind Mitena were Blitzen, Gypsy, Corona, Nim- bus and Last Straw. At Point Bet- sie, the pack began the passage around the Leelanau Peninsula and the northeasterly course to Mackinac. Gypsy was the first to cross the Mackinac line in last week's race from Port Huron. * * * Mrs. Susman Wins HAVERFORD, Pa. - Top seed- ed Mrs. Karen Hantze Susman of San Antonio, Tex., led the way yesterday into the third round of the Pennsylvania Lawn Tennis Championships. It was just the reverse in the second set, each keeping his ser- vice through the first seven games until McKinley broke Stolle's in the eighth. The Aussie did the same to Mc- Kinley in the ninth after being at set point three times. Stolle took three games in a row to lead 6-5. Then McKinley, capitalizing on eight netted balls and four- double faults by Stolle won the last three games and the set. Stolle, Australia's sixth ranked player, ran up a 4-1 margin in the third set- then appeared to tire. McKinley rubbed him out by winning five straight. Stolle served three aces but also double faulted 10 times during the match. The doubles teams of Marty Riessen - Ramsey Earnhart and Chris Crawford-Stolle battled into the double finals yesterday.
