In his argument for the substi-
tution of an entrance requirement,
Gindin supported a proposal sub-
nitted last month by Prof. Wil-
liam Cressey of the Spanish de-
partment.
Cressey's proposal provides for
a phased changeover by 1972 to
a language entrance requirement.
In the interim, the present re-
quirement would be lightened, and1
elementary courses would be al-
tered to emphasize more "con-
tact" with the country whose
language is being studied.
