0 SAN JOSE, Calif. - San Jose State College yesterday named
Lang Stanley, a Negro, as assistant athletic director.
Recently most of the school's Negro athletes presented a list of
demands, one of which was that a member of their race be named an
assistant to athletic director Bob Bronzan.
San Jose's athletic program has been beset by racial problems
this school year.
Seven Negro football players refused to play against Briglam
Young and lost their scholarships, then three Negro basketball play-
ers refused to play for several games in sympathy with the football
players..
The players who lost their scholarships since have been told they
will regain them in the spring.

S BALTIMORE-Harry Dalton, player personnel director of
the Baltimore Orioles, thinks the dispute between major league base-
ball players and club owners will be settled in time for spring train-
ing.
The players are insisting that club owners come up with more
money for their pension plan.
"Maybe I'm more optimistic than most people,, but I think the
dispute will be settled soon - by the start of training next week,
give or take a day or two," Dalton said.

* SOUTH BEND, Ind.-The University of Notre Dame's five Negro
varsity basketball players rejoined the team yesterday afternoon
after accepting an apology for being booed during Tuesday night's
71-59 defeat by Michigan State.
They said they wouldn't practice or play until they got the
apology and "You can even throw us out of school."
Jay Richard Rossi of Clarksdale, Miss., president of the student
body, apologized to the five Negroes.
Four of the five Negroes-Austin Carr, Sid Catlett, Collis Jones
and Bob Whitmore-are from Washington, and the fifth, Dwight
Murphy, is from Kansas City, Kan.
