By The Associated Press v CHICAGO-The three-man nu- cleus of Michigan's 1965, swimming team headed for Japan today as part of a touring U.S. squad of 17 picked from the National AAU championships over the weekend. Backstroker Ed Bartsch, dis- tance freestyler Bill Farley and Senkowski Drops Finais By The Associated Press QUEBEC-Favored Ham Rich- ardson of Dallas, Tet:., needed only one hour to finish off Ray Sen- kowski of Hamtramck, 6-0, 6-1, 6- 3, Sunday in the finals of the Eastern Canada Tennis Cham- pionship. Senkowski, Michigan's first sin- gles player last spring, made the finals by upsettir Whitney Reed, formerly the top-ranked U.S. player. butterflyer Carl Robie were all named to the team, which included every AAU titlist except Indiana's Tom Stock and Ted Stickles, who both asked to be excluded for scholastic reasons. Bartsch, the Pan - American champion from Philadelphia, won his berth by tieing for second in the 200-meter backstroke. Gaining an outright second was Farley, another Pan-American veteran, from LaCanada, Calif. He pushed young Don Schollander to an American citizens' record in the 400-meter freestyle. Robie gained as much attention as anyone in the meet by winning his third con- secutive national crown and break- ing his own American record with a 2:08.8 clocking in the 200-meter butterfly. He is a Drexel Hills, Pa., product who will be entering Mich- igan as a freshman this year. In two years, then, Robie will be eligible to enter varsity com- petition. By that time, Bartsch will be a senior and Farley a junior on Coach Gus Stager's Woi- verine squad. w tht lear ATLANTA (R) - Wally Butts, who coached football at Georgia- more than 21 years, broke into tears on the witness stand yester- day after insisting again he did not rig last fall's Georgia-Ala- bama game. Half-stumbling from the stand, the stocky Butts held his right hand in front of his eyes and sobbed. The trial of his $10 mil- lion libel suit against the publish- ers of the Saturday Evening Post was disrupted. His wife and three daughters, sitting on a front row bench in District Federal Court, began Iut DtLeniUL weeping as did several spectators in the packed courtroom. Court was recessed for about 10 minutes. The outburst came after Butts' attorney had read a Post edi- torial note which said Butts and. Coach Paul (Bear) Bryant of Ala- bama rigged the 1962 game. He was asked if there was any truth in the charge. "No. And I would like to ex- plain that. For a time I hid from people, but not any longer - be- cause it is not true!" Then he burst into sobs. However, Friend wasn't around at the finish as Elroy Face, mak- ing his fifth appearance in this five-game series, had to put out a ninth-inning rally when an error Musial Calls ind to Career ST.
