By The Associated Press
SAN FRANCISCO - A red-
haired Irishman, Howard (Red)
Hickey, who calls desire the biggest
thing in football, moved up today
from assistant to head coach of
the San Francisco 49ers.
Desire, said the 41 - year - old!
graduate of pro ranks, can win the
49ers the National Football League
title which eluded three predeces-
sors. Hickey insisted he is going to
have that desire-either from the
present players or by others.
"I feel this club has the nucleus
to become a winner," the former
University of Arkansas end stated
when his three-year contract was
announced.

Turkey Takes Soccer Title
In a very bitter and hard fought
contest, Turkey defeated Interna-
tional, 4-2, to cop the ISA cham-
pionship, Sunday.
Opening up with Erol Oktar
and Muzaffer Ozdenler, Turkey
Jumped off to a 2-0 lead before
International could score. Then

Enrique Jarabo put two goals
across for International to tie it
up. But Turkey came back to close
the half with a marker by Suha
Alpayli. They followed this up with
two goals by Emin O)ker and an-
other by Oktar to end the scoring.
The game was played with re-
ferees from the stands and Inter-
national has protested, however,
nothing is expected to come of it.

Boston, New York Win in NBA
NEW YORK - Frank Ramsey
sparked a Boston rally in the final
two minutes to give the Celtics a
108-104 victory over Syracuse to-
night and snapped the Nationals'
seven game National Basketball
Assn. winning streak in the opener
of a doubleheader.
The New York Knickerbockers,
leading all the way, whipped the
Cincinnati Royals 118-106 in the
second game at Madison Square
Garden tonight. The Knicks re-
mained tied for first place with
the Boston Celtics n the Eastern
Division of the NBA.
