MAIN FINANCIAL BACKING: Christmas Seal Revenues Support TB Sanitariums NOW AVAILABLE ON s } ...r... ..r.... DECCA Those colorful Christmas seals, to be pasted on countless letters and packages this season, have a distinct purpose. Paul F. Roeder, executive sec- retary of the Washtenaw County Tuberculosis Association, said the annual sale of seals represents the main type of financial support for the Association's operations. In Washtenaw County alone, sheets of seals have been sent by mail to nearly 54,000 residents. Work in Four Areas The Tuberculosis Association operates in four areas: health and education, case finding, research and rehabilitation. The bulk of the funds used on the local level are for education. A portion of the budget helps provide printed ma- terials, films and consultation to the general public, teacher, physi- cian, and social worker. At the University some of these materials find classroom use. The theme of all the distributed matter is to stress general health as pro- tection against tuberculosis. The Association provides free chest X-rays for children and adults. This year, 9,000 school children in the Ann Arbor area passed through the mobile X-ray urthermore, Christmas Seal funds are financing on-campus re- search projects in physics, epidem- iology, bacteriology, and serology.
