Two Reeves swimmers set new
I-M records, but Gomberg won{
the meet, 34-23, and thus moved
into the finals against Chicago,j
which downed Scott, 31-23.
I-M Director Earl Riskey said

The faculty representatives
tightened several rules on eligi-
bility.
Under the Big Ten's contro-
versial financial aid program, an
athlete now must file a statement
of means of financial support for
each school year. Deliberate falsi-
fication will result in forfeit of all
conference eligibility. This is aim-
ed at possible illegal financial aid
via "under-the-table" support by
alumni or interested parties.
Minimum Class Hours
The - faculty group also pin-
pointed the area of classroom re-
quirements for physical education
majors or students specializing in
that field. It specified that such a
student must carry 11 minimum
hours of "primarily scholastic"
study in a current and previous
semester to retain athletic eligi-
bility. This differs from "activity"
credits, like classes in sports or
recreation.
The faculty men reaffirmed a
proposal to limit aid tenders to
athletesin the upper two-thirds of
their high school graduating classt
on a scholastic basis.
The faculty men also bolstered
the Big Ten's so-called red shirt-
ing rule, Now athletic eligibility
will be limited to 4 consecutive 12-
month periods following the date
of enrollment. This is retroactive
to December, 1957.
