Calvin Griffith, president of the Senators, announced the deal after long conferences with the Tigers that began during the Major League Baseball Meeting this week.t Yost has spent his entire base- ball career with the Senators. The 32-year-old third baseman came to Washington in 1944 and has remained with the Senators ever since, except for two war years in the Navy. Bertola, who will replace Yost in the Washington infield, is nine years younger. Neither player hit well last season. Yost averaged .224 and Bertoria .233, NEW YORK -- Iowa's Randy Duncan led the nation's major, college passers in completion aver- age and yards gained through the air it was announced yesterday by the final NCAA service bureau statistics. The All-American quarterback completed -106 passes at a .587 average, good for a total of 1,347 yards. Two Southwest Conference stars have won major college football championships, the NCAA service bureau revealed yesterday. They are Budny Humphrey who cap- tured the passing title, and Dave Hibbert who was tops in pass re- ceiving.
