The coach, pleased especially with his defense, credited Tidwell for guarding Hennon very well. Lead at Half When Tidwell left the playing floor with a couple of minutes re- maining in the game, Hennon had connected on only eight of his 29 goal attempts. The Panthers' final tally was boosted by eight-for- nine at the free throw line. Securing the blitzkrieg margin, the Wolverine five became strong- er than ever. By halftime they were out in front, 40-23. Tidwell and Miller, with 16 and 11 points respectively, were the main cogs in the rolling, 40.5 shooting percentage of those first 20 minutes. The second half was just a mat- ter of playing out the clock. Hen- non dropped in a push shot at the start of the period, closing the gap to 15. But Pitt never came closer. Burton and Tidwell kept up their consistent scoring and Lee (By the A horof "Raly Round the Flag, Boys!"and, "Barefoot Boy with Cheek.) I i THE GIFT HORSE I know how busy you are-studying, going to class, catching might crawlers-.but let me interrupt your multifarious activi- ties-studying, going to class, helping old grads find their dentures after Homecoming-to remind you that busy as you are-studying, going to class, searching for meat in the dormi- tory stew-time and tide wait for no man, and the Yuletide will soon be upon us. Busy or not, we must turn our thoughts to Christmas shopping. Let us, therefore, pause for a moment in\ our busy schedules-studying, going to class, rolling drunks-- to examine a number of interesting gift suggestions. We will start with the hardest gift problem of all: What do you give to the person who has everything? Well sir, there fol- lows a list of a half dozen gifts which I will flatly guarantee the person who has everything does not have; 1. A dentist's chair. 2. A low hurdle. S. A street map of Perth. 4. Fifty pounds of chicken fat. 5. A carton of filter-tip Marlboros. 6. A carton of non-filter Philip Morris. *Wrhat?" you exclaim, your young eyebrows rising in wild Incredulity. "The person who has everything does not have cartons of filter Marlboros and non-filter Philip Morris?" you shriek, your young lips curling mockingly. "What arrant non- sense !" you rasp, making a coarse gesture. And I reply with an emphatic no! The person who has every- thing does not have filter Marlboros and non-filter Philip Morris --not for long anyhow-because if he has Marlboros and Philip Morris and if he is a person who likes a mild, mellow, fresh, flavorful cigarette-and who does not? eh? who does not?- why, then he doesn't have Marlboros and Philip Morris; he smokes them. He might possibly have a large collection of Marlboro and Philip Morris butts, but whole Marlboros and Philip Morris? No. An emphatic no! Now we take up another thorny gift problem: What do you buy your girl if you are broke? Quite a challenge, you will agree, but there is an answer-an ingenious, exciting answer! Surprise your girl with a beautiful bronze head of herself I joined in with a 12-point total for the second half. Three Help Team The trio helped push the team out in front, 50-29, with 14:30 tq play. At that point, Perigo chose to break up his iron man starting crew as Tidwell received his fourth foul. Pitt put on a press, but Hennon also got his fourth personal sec- onds later - a final blow to any faraway Panther hopes. Perigo used this opportunity to test his bench for experience. Studded with sophomores, the Hoosiers connected on 28 of 64 shots from the field for .483. While Drake's Bob Tealer led the scoring, his team couldn't match the deadly Indiana quintet. In Iowa City, youthful Sharm Scheuerman made a successful head basketball coaching start yesterday as his Iowa Hawkeyes trounced Colorado 67-46. Iowa wasted little time in tak- ing a commanding lead on its way to an 80th consecutive home court victory over a non-conference op- ponent. The Hawkeyes led by seven points with six minutes played in the first half and were ahead by 18 points 39-21 at half- time. They slowly increased that edge to 25 points late in the game. By BUZ STEINBERG Michigan's Sailing Club took top honors at the Timmie Angesten MVemorial Championship races in Chicago's Belmont Harbor during Thanksgiving vacation.j This was the first time in four years that Brown University has not won. It is the only time since the origination of these races that Michigan has won. 'M' Wins In previous years it had been customary for eastern schools to cop first place, but the well-guided Michigan team took the top spot with 187 points. Wisconsin nosed its way into second place with a total of 161 points. Brown was shoved into third place with a 155 point total. The other scores in order were: Indiana, 131; Purdue, 119; Mar- quette, 115; Northwestern, 110; Cincinnati, 105; University of De- troit, 102; and Ohio State, 97. Badgers Take Early Lead On Friday, the first day of the races, Wisconsin surged ahead of the field with an eight point lead over the temporary second-place Michigan team. Saturday high winds forced the postponement of the races till Sunday when the meet was to be completed. Sunday the Michigan squad went on to sweep eight first places in thirteen events. This was the punch that was needed to knock out Wisconsin and to tumble Brown from their former throne. Bryan Mitchell of Wisconsin was top individual scorer in 'A' events with a total of 98 points. Second to him was Michigan's Dexter Thede with 92 individual points. In 'B' events Otto Scherer of Michigan managed to earn 95 in- dividual points. *- / i 1 O. iRT- w= " I-M SCORES Oh, I know you're not a sculptor, but that doesn't matter.
