Votes To Cut The Senate Appropriations Corn- mittee, however, put the ax to all these figures with Senate Bill 1335, which cut the appropriation to $30,000,000-$929,900 less than for 1957-58. 5. 1335 came up for a Third Reading vote on April 3. On that date Senator Christman voted against every liberalizing amend-' ment offered. He voted to cut the budget $929.900 below last year's level. After the House had restored the' appropriation to the 1957-58 fig- ure, the question before the Sen- ate was whether to concur with this restoration. Senator Christ- man voted against concurring, 'Present Not Voting' S. 1335 then went to Conference Committee, from which it emerged with the University's appropria- tion still at the low $30,000,000 figure. On April 18 the Senate voted to adopt the Conference re- port. Senator ChrisIman did not vote against it. He was "present not voting." When the House lad again re- stored the appropriation to the 1957-58 level, the Senate again voted against the higher figure. Senator Christman was again "present not voting." Votes To Cut A seconde Conference produced the same result as the first. Oan April 19, therefore, the question before the Senate was whether to accept the report. Senator Christ- man voted with 19 others to ac-, cept this report-in other words, to cut the University's budget to $929,900. TO SUPPORT THE UNIVERSITY IN LANSING ELECT YOUR COLLEAGUE 0.
