THE MICHIGAN DAILY FR] Clements Library Gets 28 W ashingtonLetters r' TheUniversity Clements Library brary has received a gift consisting' of 28 letters which were written' ,by George Washington.' The newly-acquired letters are concerned with Washington's prob- lems of command during the Rev- olution, with his farm problems at Mount Vernon, and with political affairs while he was president. The letters were given by alum- nus James S. Schoff, '22, a promi- nent New York business executive. The gift raises to 78 the number of Washington letters in the col- lection.- "One of them is an eloquent appeal for the adoption of the Constitution against the objectors who argued for the superiority of states' rights. The letters are in fne condition and in Washington's beautiful penmanship," Howard Peckham, director of the library said. The letters were purchased at various auctions by Schoff, an au- tography collector. In addition to the Washington letters, he has given the library more than 100 other letters dealing with the Rev- olution by other eminent Ameri- cans. SGC Group To Discuss Plan Change Student Government Council's Seminar will discuss the recent recommendations for changes in the Board of Review at 3 pm. Sunday in the University Club dining room of the Union, ac- cording to Ahmed Belkhodja, Grad., chairman. The seminar, which is open to anyone who is interested in at- tending, will especially include members of the student political organizations at the University. The meeting this week is the first of the semester, he said.
