t, ____u_________________________________ She granted that many advances are being made in that area, but advised that it should not be pur- sued to the neglect of other as- pects of history. In other recent developments, Prof. Judson said that history is beginning to borrow some tech- niques and approaches from other social sciences. In turn, history is contributing much to them, most noticeably its manner of looking at a situation from all points of view, seeing it as a whole rather than as an isolated phemenon. As to her own field of history, the 17th century, she felt she "just drifted into it" from a long-stand- ing interest in constitutional his- tory and ideas. "This period of his- tory is amazingly rich for the study of these and full of basic constitutional conflicts," she ex- plained. Rates University Prof. Judson rated students at the University as "serious, friend- ly, interested and hard-working." She reported that although they are accustomed more to the lec- ture method than the discussion type of instruction, she was im- pressed by the number of chal-. lenging questions they asked. "I have enjoyed University students immensely," she declared. Similarly, she had words of praise for. her associates in the history department, saying, "It has been a rewarding experience to work with them." She has found many of the same departmental policies and problems here as exist at Rutgers. ing it separate from the Final Convocation. While supporting replacement of commencement, the committee also recommended continuation of the present ten-day exam period, permitting schools or colleges "which feel strongly about the length of exams or the number per day to continue their practice of holding no more than two three hour examps a day, without re- stricting those which do nbt wish to do so." The committee suggested ex- tending the "lame duck session"; between Christmas and first se- mester exams as an answer to "many objections from faculty members and students" concerning the shortness of the period. The Christmas - to - finals time span would range from two-and- one-half to three-and-one-half weeks under the proposal. Christmas vacation should begin about ten days prior to Christmas, the committee felt, to "benefit stu- dents seeking Christmas jobs." Other suggestions, "not directly connected with the dimensions of the calendar," were recommended, including some form of advanced registration and the printing of examination schedules in the Uni- versity time schedule. } ALTERATIONS "The Clothing Stores' Tailor" Alterations for Men and Women.
