By BILL ZOLLA Michigan's golf team retained enough of its early first round lead to defeat Purdue, Ohio State, and Northwestern in three separate dual meets here yesterday. y The quadrangular meet was run as six dual contests with each squad pitted against the three others. .The Wolverines edged the de- fending Big Ten champion Boiler- makers, 211/-20a, although they nearly blew the seven point mar- gin, 14-7, which they had built up in the-first '1 holes. Identical Scores Michigan whipped Northwestern and OSU by identical -23-13 totals. In addition, Purdue beat Ohio State, 231%-12%, and NU, 29-7. The Buckeyes outshot the Wild- cats, 21-15. Captain Ray Lovell, playing in the nu'mber one position for Mich- igan, led the squad with a two- round total of 73-79-152, and outscored his Purdue opponent,. John Konsek, last year's Big Ten medalist, 41/2/2, in the match. Lovell's 73 was the low round of the day; and his 36-hole total of 152 was the finest turned in among the 26 golfers competing. Especially Sweet The victories over Purdue and OSU weieespecially sweet because they avenged earlier defeats. The' Boilermakers whipped the Wolver- ines, 28-8, and the Buckeyes took the measure of the "M" squad, 24-12, in a similar quadrangular meet this year. - "The win over Purdue was most impressive, for it indicates that, we must be considered as contend- ers4 for the Big Ten crown," said Michigan Coach Bert Katzen- meyer, who was quite jubilant over the triple win. He added that he was pleased with the performances, but did not feel that the squad had reached thR peak which will be necessary for Conference supremacy. Golf Simmaries MICHIGAN POINTS WON FROM Pur.
