Head Coach Bump Elliott and his associates have split the huge 98-man squad into two teamsk which they feel are of equalt strength.t "VWe have split up units that we have' used all spring and placed individuals where we felt we could obtain balanced teams," Elliott stated at practice yester-f day. "Equality is our main objective,"i Elliott continued. "We hope to have a real good game."s Newcomers Twenty-one of the first 44 play- ers listed to see action in the an- nual affair are newcomers. This unusually large number appears to forshadow the role these fresh- men will play next fall in the Wolverines' plans. The White team will be coached by Hank Fonde, Jack Nelson and Don Dufek, while the Blues will be directed by Bob Hollway and Jack Pouts. Elliott will watch 'the proceedings from the sidelines as an observer.' Eight Frosh A total of eight freshmen will make their varsity debuts in the starting lineups, the Whites will have three yearling starters and the Blues have five. In the, opening lineup for the Whites will be left halfback Ben- nie McRae, fullback Bill Tunni- cliff and center Virgil Pampu. Freshmen starters for the Blues will be John Stamos at quarter- back, right end Bob Brown, right tackle Paul Schmidt, left guard Jon Schopf and at left end either Jim Rorowin or George Mans will get the starting role. Out With Injuries Due to injuries, outstanding freshmen prospects center Steve Steiler and right halfback John Haley will not see any action. The starting lineups for both squads will be a combination of these newcomers, returning let- termen and former reserves.
