The University medical, center
will present awards to -150 mem-
bers of the Volunteer Services
Guild .at 3 p.m. today in the medi-
cal center's private dining rooms.
Three local groups and 65 guild
members will receive special
awards from Dr. A. C. Kerlikow-
ske, director of the medical center
and Dr. Roger B. Nelson, associate
director. These groups and Guild
members have served either as
volunteers in the hospital or as
Guild officers.

Commenting on the work of the
volunteers, Dr. Kerlikowske said,
"We are deeply indebted to the
volunteers from our, community
who provide patients at University
Hospital with riany of the per-
sonal, homelike services which the
hospital itself 'cannot provide."
To Honor Volunteers
Hospital department heads and
staff members will also be present
to honor volunteers, who have
contributed over 20,OOQ hours of
service during the past year.
The local groups receiving cer-
tificates will be the Ann Arbor
Garden Club, The King's Daugh-
ters and the Well Baby Clinic.

this discovery, our knowledge of
Menander was based on some re-
maining epigrams and the recon-
struction of five plays from earlier
papyri. "This is the only complete
text we possess," he, added.
"A Young Play"
"The Grouch" or "The Ill-
Tempered Man" is a young play.
It was probably written when
Menander was about 25, Prof.
Webster -said. He recounted the
plot, -which is very complex, and
noted that as Greek drama devel-
oped, actors gained in significance,
while the chorus declined in im-
portance.
"In Menander, the chorus has
no special words, and is primarily
interlude music," he observed.
The play illustrates Menander's
belief that "The world is too con-
cerned with unnecessary pursuits,
but is not beyond redemption,"
Prof. Webster added. A certain in-
tricacy of the plot parallels the
possibility that human action can
be disinterested.
Extraordinary Care Taken
"Extraordinary care and em-
phasis for both motivation and
preparation for character en-
trances is taken," he continued.
"We were able to make up our
own minds as to what had actual-
ly been written," Prof. Webster
said, explaining that he received
one of the first copies from the
papyrus manuscript. It is a diffi-
cult manuscript, with lost begin-
nings -and miswritten words. It
was supposed to have been pub-
lished last September, but copies

Commissions in the air force are
open to college graduates between
the ages of 20!/2 and 27/, it was
announced yesterday.
Those selected will be commis-
sioied a second lieutenant after
a three months' indoctrination
course at Lackland Air Force Base
in San Antonio, Tex. The graduate
officer, who may be enlisted for a
period of three years, will then be
assigned -directly to duty or to
pursue a course in pilot, navi-
gator or technical training.
The training course will be de-
termined for each individual by
his desire and qualifications, cor-
related with the needs of the air
force. Married men may apply.
