A comedy with a tragic note running throughout, "The Hasty Socialists Plan First Meeting The Democratic Socialists Club will hold an organizational meet- ing tonight at 8 p.m. in the Union. The group, established on cam- pus Feb. 27, will select committees an dmake program plans. The gen- eral public is invited. According to William Evans, '59, chairman of the group, the objects of the club include the presenta- tion of socialist thought and dis- cussion, the presentation of speak- ers and the taking of an active stand on both local and inter- national issues. Another object is the challeng- ing of the Young Republicans and Democrats to debate. Evans said the object of the debates would be to "find any life" in the YR's and YD's. The Assembly will consist of delegates from 56 countries and a delegate has been defined as any University student who was born in or is presently from the country he is representing. The only exception is the case of the Union of Soviet Socialist Re- publics where American students from the Russian studies and poli-; tical science departments will act as Russian delegates since there is no Russian student at the Uni- versity. Only the Russian delegation will attempt to echo the official stand of the USSR. All other delegates will give their own opinions and not necessarily those of the coun- tries they represent.
