THE MICHIGAN DAILY iv lockey Team leats Gophers For Direct Classified Ad Service, Phone NO 2-4736 from 1:00 to 3 P.M. Monday through Friday, and Saturday 9:30 'til 11:30 A.M. Special to The Daily MINNEAPOLIS - Michigan icerss once again rebounded from a first night loss to win the Sat- urday affair, as they outskated Minnesota here last night, 6-3. Friday night the Wolverines fell to the Gophers, 6-2, but redeemed themselves last night with a fast- moving comeback. Earlier in the season Minnesota had taken two contests froni Michigan at Ann Arbor.. All of the Wolverines were up for this final battle with the Gophers, and after the first mo- ment of play it was evident that Michigan was not to be handled lightly. The keyed-up spirit was not lost as the contest moved along, and the 'M' icers took a large first period lead. r The first time Michigan got control of the puck they put it in the net. Gary Mattson and John Hutton passed the puck down the ice, and when Dale MacDonald slipped behind the Gopher de- fense Hutton set him up for the first 'M' goal. Three More Goals Three more were to follow in the next eight minutes, as Mich- igan ran up a 4-0 lead before al- lowing the Gophers a goal at the end of the first period. At 11:41, Mattson slapped home a goal, after taking a perfect pass from Captain Bobbie Watt. Less than a minute later Steve Bochen notched another Michigan goal with assists going to Bob White and Barrie Hayton. Hutton got the fourth 'M' goal unassisted, to build up a huge first period lead. Minnesota scored the only goal of the second period, to cut the lead to 4-2, but the Wolverines countered with two quick goals in the third period to coast to the victory. Bochen and MacDonald] each got their second goal, Bochen's at 1:10 and MacDonald's at 4:52, to hold off the Gophers' last period Hockey Statistics k MICHIGAN MINNESOTA Childs G Vaia White C Watts Watt D Riley Mateka D L. The Michigan spirit provided a lot of rough play and body check- ing, and the Wolverines received 11 penalties, including two for misconduct, compared to Minne- sota's two penalties.' 'Superior Coaching' Michigan definitely outplayed the Gophers, and Minnesota coach John Mariucci accounted this to "Al Renfrew's superior coaching." This came after Mariucci had commented that "any team play- ing with only two lines cannot possibly win." The Wolverines proved other- wise! Wolverine Gym Team Wins Meet Special to The Daily DAYTON, O.-Michigan's gym- nastics team easily handled the field at an open meet here last night, edging the nearest rival- Cleveland Turner Association--73- 54%. The Wolverines depth paid, off, although some 'M' men took first places to pad the point total. Rich Montpetit was first on the high bar and side horse, while Nino Marion won the still rings. The depth showed in the final totals for the all-around event, as Michigan placed Montpetit second, Marion third, Wolf Dgzauer fifth and Al Stall sixth. On the parallel bars: Montpetit was second, Dozauer third and freshman Ken Sakamoto fifth. Stall was second on the long horse, with Marion tied for sixth. Stall also gained a third on the trampo- line, since Michigan's regular trampmen .didn't make the trip. Besides Montpetit's triumph on. the high bar, Marion placed third and Dozauer" fourth. On the side horse, Marion was third and Stall fourth behind Montpetit. Behind Marion on still rings were Stall tied for third and Mont- petit fifth. In tumbling Jimmy Brown was second and Stall fourth. The Turner's from Cleveland boast two Olympic veterans, who took many firsts and seconds, but they couldn't beat Michigan's depth. The other teams in the meet weren't in the running for squad honors. ALTERATIONS JOHN'S TAILOR SHOP "The Clothing Stores' Tailor" Alterations for Men and Women. Pressing While You Wait 118% E.
