The Illini came back fighting after trailing 17-0 at the start. Roger Taylor pumped in 28 points for the winners. Indiana went into the game with a chance to tie Michigan State's idle Big Ten leaders, 7-2, in league play. The Hoosiers started out as if they would run the fllinl out of the gym. After scoring the first 17 points, they ran their advan- tage to 27-9. Then Illinois pulled itself together and scored nine straight points but still trailed, 47-34, at the half. Five Illinois players scored 10 or more points apiece in the sec- ond half. A surge that included three straight baskets by Govoner1 Vaughn put the Illini ahead forI the first time at 68-67 with 6:281 to play. Indiana never re the lead.
