Wallace was pestered by heck-
lers at each stop he made, includ-
ing nearly 350 in Lansing. Most
of the Lansing hecklers were stu-
dents from MSU and nearby
Oliziet.
The students in Lansing chant-
ed and heckled throughout most
of Wallace's speech. One student
used a mirror to reflect the sun
in Wallace's eyes. However, Wal-
lace gamely attacked the students
with his stolk "put-downs."
"You guys over there better just
shut up," he said at one point,
"or we won't promote you to the
second grade."
Later Wallace became more
viscous in his attacks at the stu-
dent hecklers. "I thought we got
rid of our Nazis in World War II,
but I see there are still some of
you left.
"You folks out there better tell
the kids to have their day of fun
now, beacuse after Nov. 5, they

In Lansing after the end of
Wallace's speech, roving groups of
students, both black and white,
confronted the Wallace support-
ers, in an attempt to force some
sort of dialogue and badger the
Wallace people about their beliefs.
A brief fist fight began im-
mediately after the speech be-
tween a young black and several
Wallace supporters. However, one
of the ever-present security men
quickly broke up the fight.

Police manned the roof tops of
hotels and buildings across from
the capitol, and were armed with
binoculars, walkie-talkies and
high-powered carbines. The crowd
in Lansing was separated from
Wallace by steel-linked c h a i n s,
backed up by policemen spaced
five yards apart.
