Madalyn Murray, lawyer and religious critic,
has been aptly described as a "militant athe-
ist." Her crusade in 1964 was probably the
most direct, single cause for the Constitutional
ban on prayer in school. Though continually
opposed by many social forces, she has firmly
and vocally presented her stand on Church and
State through all available media.
