Ed school
vote due
(Continued from Page 1)
mittee, suggests having; "the
"whole faculty vote for divisional
representatives nominated by
each division.
And the problem is still far from
settlement. "I haven't made a de-
cision," says education school
Dean. Wilbur Cohen. "I'm trying
to be judicious, about it"
On other parts of the assembly
proposal, Cohen says he will give
top priority to dividing the school
into divisions providing the fac-
ulty approves.
Cohen says he would give sec-
ond priority to proposed additions
to the dean's office. The assembly
report calls for an associate dean
and assistant deans for instruc-
tion, research, and institutional
relations.
If the plan ultimately does go
into effect, it will not end the
current attempts to reshape the
school's program, for the plan also
calls for an appraisal committee
to continuously evaluate t h e
school.
The committee would consist of'
four faculty members, two stu-
dents, two community representa-
tives, two school representatives
and two faculty members from
other University units.
Besides the evaluation commit-
tee, the report asks that "after
two years of implementation the
organizational structure will be
evaluated by the Assembly" with
the aid of the institutional eval-
uation unit,' which normally eval-
uates the school's programs.
Cohen says he will accept the ap-
praisal committee "as long as the
commitment for re-examination
follows."
But Cohen will not be able to
accept the plan unless the faculty
approves it, and predictions about
how the faculty will vote remain
mixed.
Dimond says, "I think it will
pass. The faculty is ready to have
reorganization so Cohen can have
an administrative system he can
work with."
But Scholl is less optimistic.
"There is a lot of apprehension it
is not going to go through" she
says. "Some people think no part
will go through."
