David Zemmer said he "did not want to comment because it might prejudice the court case." But University administrators do deny the charge that they tried to cover up the in- cident. "That's just not true," says Director of University Housing John Feldkamp. "The first person on the scene was a resident advisor. He called the housing investigator who took the injured boys to the health service." The names of the students charged with assault have been submitted to the schools they attend and a decision on possible dis- ciplinary action will be made later. Three of the students involved in the inci- dent have also been charged in District Court with felonious assault. An examina- tion on the charge for one of the students has been set for April 15. The other two students were ordered to return to the court on Tuesday to either demand examination or waive it. All have been released on $250 bond. and Rally in Detroit. Ann Arbor GLF is en- couraging its members to attend, and also encourages members to participate in similar local marches. The organization does not want to force members to become politically active, how- ever. As Mike Jones explains to the GLF membership, "If you don't want to go out and do something . . . you are as deserving as much of privacy from us as you are from th3 pigs." The main political theme of the organiza- tion is a cry of repression, and the charge is directed as much towards gay people them- selves as it is towards. the larger society. Detroit GLF in a March 27 press release summarizes a gay view of the socio-psy- chological problems of being homosexual. "Brought up in a society that damns us, ridicules us, and stereotypes us . . . unable to fit into any of the artificial roles that society has defined for the sexes . . . taught that our sexual inclinations are perverted, immoral . . . we find our very humanity denied. "As a result, many homosexuals have been unable to accept themselves; intense feelings of guilt and inferiority have led some to mental breakdown. even suicide. "We are accused of being mentally im- balanced; we ask how sane most hetero- sexuals would be if they were-forced to expe- rience what we must daily endure." The Detroit analysis is evidenced, for one member. by the-fact that less than 10 per- cent of GLF members are women, "I think women conceal themselves even more than men." said one girl. "But I know they're out there. They're just harder to identify visually than men." "We need to encourage them to come," she added. The Ann Arbor GLF hopes to bring its own people "out of the closets." In terms of the larger society, it hopes to provide a new definition for homosexuality. Wittman's "Gay manifesto" provides one: "Homosexuality is not a lot of things. It is not a makeshift in the absence of the op- posite sex; it is not hatred or rejection of the opposite sex; it is not genetic, it is not the result of broken homes except inasmuch as we could see the sham of American mar- riage. "During an election year every politician is against slums," Camejo said. "Why do we still have slums?" "We don't even know our own, strength," he continued. "We have got to move masses." Camejo said the key to the success of the protests were "mass-actions by the people."
