The defeat reduced Minnesota's American League lead to one per- centage point. The Indians took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning when Tiant, 9-9, drove in two runs with a bases- filled single. Leon Wagner drew a walk to open the frame and moved up on Max Alvis' infield single. Joe Azcue's single to left scored Wag- ner and the other two runs ad- BOSTON (A)-The Boston Red Sox received a double dose of good news yesterday-Minnesota's loss and a medical okay for right- handed pitcher Jose Santiago. The Red Sox, enjoying a badly needed day's rest, moved to with- in one percentage point of the American League lead as the Cleveland Indians edged the Min- nesota Twins 3-2. Earlier, Santiago passed an ex-; amination by an eye specialist. The exam showed that he escaped serious injury when hit in the left eye while shagging fly balls in pre-game practice at Washington Tuesday night. ' Santiago will be in uniform for the opener of a four-game series with the New York Yankees at Fenway Park tonight. He is listed to start against the Yanks Sat.
