Detroit, picked by the baseball writers to win the pennant, will be at home to the defending champion Red Sox, on Tuesday. Earl Wilson, the Tigers', 22 game winner, will oppose ex-Phil Dick Ellsworth, before 40.000. Tommy Davis will be the center of attention when the Chicago White Sox meet the Cleveland Indians at Cominskey Park. The outfielder with the .304 career average i expected to add new pep to the Sox attack. The New York Yankees, strug- gling to regroup after three years in the second division, have short- stop and catching problems as they open at home against the California Angels. The assassination, of Dr.f Mar- tin Luther King has resulted in the postponement of Monday's traditional Presidential Opener of the baseball season in Wash- ington. As a result, the Senators will open Tuesday at home against the Minniesota Twins. Camilo Pas- cual, whose new manager, Jim Lemon, used to help him win games with home runs, will pitch for the home side against the Twins' Dean Chance. 4 COACHING CIRCUS The third in the series of Saturday spring scrimmages begins this afternoon at 2 p.m. on South Ferry Field. George Hoey, who joined his outdoor track teammates this past week, will be iissing to- day. Hoey had been working out at split end, Jim Berline's old spot. With the addition of two new coaches, re- Hank Fonde moved from offensive back- field coach to defensive coordinator and sec- ondary coach. Bob Shaw, one of the new staff additions, has charge of the defensive ends and linebackers while.Dennis Fitzgerald takes care of the defensive line.* Tony Mason is the offensive coordinator moving up from offensive line coach. George Mans remains with the offensive ends and Frank Maloney, the other new coach, is responsible for the offensive line. SCORES i p 4 4
