Doug Galbraith, the team's leading scorer with 17 points, will lead the second line along with Mike Marttila and Ron Ullyot, who trails Galbraith with 12 points. Al Brook, Randy Binnie, and Bruce Koviak form the new third line. Forward Dave Perrin, down with the flu, will be the only iceman definitely not seeing action this weekend. Even though Sparty won't be there, a rookie goalie for the Green and new lines for the Blue, as well as the unexpected will keep the rivalry in high gear. ND e Every Day 'M' Two-Mile Relay Squad Nears Indoor Track Mark Subscribe To THE MICHIGAN DAILY Call 764-0558 u~'w Atid. 764-0558 Michigan's crack two-mile relay team took a quick trip to Mobile, Ala., last week, and waltzed away with a surprisingly easy win in the Senior Bowl Invitational track meet. The four-man squad, composed of Tom Kearney, Alex McDonald, Ron Kuchinsky, and Paul Arm- strong, turned the distance in 7:27.0, just .6 seconds off the world record for the indoor event. The foursome was expected to f a c e Tennessee's highly-rated thinclads in the meet, but the Vols decided against competing in the relay event at the last min- ute. The Wolverines proved they could run without competition, however, as they defeated the second-place team by 20 seconds. This squad is essentially the same group that competed last' season. Only sophomore Arm- strong is new in the record-hunt- ing crew's ranks. 11 I Hold On Renfrew was ";satisfied" with his team's performance in the tourney, but expects a "rough road right down the stretch' from WCHA opponents this sea- son. "The WCHA is rough as a devil this year," says the Michigan mentor. "Every team is a conten- der for' the title, and at least three - Denver, North Dakota and Minnesota - have enou* talent to rate as great teams." The Wolverines currently sit near the bottom of the pack after a double loss to Denver early in December, 5-2 and 2-1 in over- time. The first contest was a 2-1 af- fair until the host Pioneers belt ed out three last period goals to win going away. The Wolverines tired easily in the high altitude at Denver and couldn't keep up with the fast-skating Pioneers. Michigan's goals were scored by Koviak and sophomore Doug Glendinning. Thriller The second half of the Denver doubleheader was a thrilling game which featured a 1-1 defensive standoff until the last two-and-a- half minutes of the overtime per- iod. Keough was "outstanding" i11 the Michigan nets, turning back 41 Pioneer shots. The Wolverines could not manage a single shot on goal in the first period and ended up with only nine shots for the entire game. One of those, however, was0 goal by Ron Ullyot midway through the third period- which sent the contest into overtime. The extra 10 minutes were almost up when Denver wing Jim Wiste took a pass from Bob Tremubecky and slipped the winner past Keough. Blitzed by Denver FIRST PERIOD SCORING: NONE.
