spite of all that has been written
about feminine emancipation and in-
tellectual advancement in Turkey,
Moslem women still are refused ad-
mission to political parties and play
a very minor role in the social, polit-
ical and intellectual life of the new
republic.
They do not yet enjoy the right to
vote nor to hold political office. Hal-
ide Edib Hanum, wife of the form-,
er mayor of Constantinople, who was
educated at the American Girls' col-:
lege in. Constantinople, is the only
exception 'to this. She once held a
post in the Ministry of Education
under Mustapha Kemal Pasha. All
other Turkish women remain in polit-
ical obscurity.
Neziha Mouhieddin Hlanum. preml-
dent of the Turkish Women's Union,
insists that women in Turkey be oiv--
en the same rights as men.
Will Number Roofs
To Aid Airplanes

G-en. J. A. Kehoe of the Kentucky na-
tional guard will have strategic cities
building roofs numbered for quick lo-
cality recognition from the air.
The state air board htas supervision
in Kentucky over establishment and
maintenance of air ports, routes and
aviation fields. This enables cities
and counties to maintain ports and
fields in conjunction with each other
ad the adjutant general, pioneering an
air service for the guard, sees the act
as a great step "upward."
WASHINGTON, July 8. - General
Lincoln C. Andrews, chief of the pro-
hibition forces, outlined his plans for
-re-organization of a dry army to Sec-
retary Mellon today and assured him
he would stick up to the post until
that task was completed.
Mr. Andrews said he had witheld
his resignation and would not alter
