I G CAMP July 8 is the date set for the arrival of those enrolled this year for the C. M. T. C. at Camp Custer, situated near Battle Creek, Mich. They will be greeted upon their arrival at the camp by Colonel Raymond Sheldon, the camp commander, and by Lieut.- Col. Wade Mills. Nearly every county in the state will be represented at Camp Custer this year. Michigan has enrolled more men for Camp Custer. Fort Brady, Fort Sheridan and Camp Sparta this year than ever before. Wayne county in particular has shown exceptionally heavy enrollment; twice as many boys were enrolled this year than ever be- fore. Port Huron and Royal Oak are among the cities that have more than filled their allotted quota; the quota for Fort Brady was filled a month ago and many turned away. Among the attractions of the camp life this year are the trophies in the form of medals, silver cups, watches, scholarships and other prizes to be given to the winners of the various athletic and track events. Prizes also go to those who make the best record for general camp conduct. Scientists Bore In Volcano Side (By Associated Press) HONOLULU., June 30. - Scientists who desire to know more about, volca- noes and especially about the Kilauea volcano on the island of Hawaii, are boring a network of holes around the vast crater. The holes are being bored with compressed air drills, and are ten feet deep. There will be one every 1,000 feet. Dr. Thomas A. Jaggar, in charge of the Kilauea volcano observatory, who is directing the work, expects to learn something about subterranean heat in its relation to volcanic activ- ity. The holes will be encased around the top and capped so that temper- ature tests may be made at any time. It is thought that a rise in tempera- ture in the holes may presage an er- uption and thus serve as a log of the life of the volcano.
