These plates are' large steel egrav- ings of facsinmile reproducctions of the original tmanuscripts foutd ii Egypt on the 'Upper Nile i 1907 andi purchased by Chas. L. Freer of Detroit. At the time of their discovery it was ot kown how vauahle these papers were, ut after they had been deciphered iby Pro- fessor Santders, schoxlars at once saw they addlexdast inforiatioin concerning certain parts of the Old Tetamfent. Two of the manuscripts are i a large hand, wh'lile the others are writtenx in a small hande which leads to the con- clusioti that they were writtenx at difer- ent timies, probaahly etweenx the third and sixth centuries A. I. For coinvenieince ini reference Prof. Sanders Inumbiered clix manuscripts. Nu'mher one cotains Deuteronomy and Joshua of the Old Testamxent. Genesis to Numhers incusive which it otce con- tained are missinig. It, however, pre- sents aix accurate text of this portion of the Septuagint The seconxd manuscript coitains the Psalms.
