Richard Yates, son of "Dick" Yaes, the famouc was governor of Illinoi, it hut 39 years of age. After leavitng Jack- soncville, Mr. Yates °encraeed in news- paper work, hot later weent to the Uni- versity of Michigan, where he graduated frotm the law school in 1884. In 1885 'he was elected city attorney of Jackson- ville, and held that office untl 1891. He announced his candidacy for congrexs- man-at-large in 1892, but after a stirring campaign was defeated. Mr. Yates, at the present titne, holds an appointmcent ceder President M- Kinley as internal revenue collecor of the Springfield districtL Open Dail at The Barbour.
