Anxious to undo any injustice that might have been done by its placing too much reliance in the garbled ac counts of the game, that wexe fur- nished by the earlier papers on the premises, the Daily made careful in- quiries among the players yesterday and learned a few things that it would have done well to have learned before. The game put up by White at full back was that of steady, persevering kind that makes a team win. He always cut a big figure in the interference ann blocked well for his fellow backs. In carrying the ball he was always a sure ground gainer and won more yards on straight foot ball than any other man on the team excepting only McLean. He was not given an opportunity to kick so could'hardly be expected to shine in this department. With all he played a good steady, conscientious, winning game. Juttner, too, put up a mucht better game at the end than he was formerly credited with. His defense was especially strong. - Musical Clubs Wil Get to Work. The University Glee, Banjo and Man- dolin Clubs held a meeting in room 24 last evening and discussed the action which the Administrative Board has taken regarding the clubs' petition to leave town. The board gave the clubs permission to give a concert in De- troit. They refused permission to go t Grand Rapids and Chicago, but with the understanding that they would be more favorably inclined should th* matter be again brought up at some date subsequent to the cetroit concert. It was decided to get down to practice and work up a concert program. All three of the clubs will hold two meet- ings a week from now on. The old time honored program will be varied somewhat this year. In addi- tion to the musical part it will prob- ably contain a short curtaii raiser by members of the Comedy Club, and various skits will be introduced in the Intermissions between the different members. This will undoubtedly make THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN DAILY. Splendid Practice. Considering the fact tha the men did not get back until three o'clock yester- day mrning the practie in the after- noon was splendid. A special feature was made of kicking goals during the short time spent at the field. There were three teams out and signal prac- tice only was run through, there being no line up. The most important change in the line up was the playing of Wil- son at guard on the 'Varsity. Hie is a trifle light for the position but is a strong aggressive player. The play was fast and snappy and the coaches think it angers well for the successful conclusion of the season. Sad Netos From France. While the game was still in progress en Franklin Field last Saturday a tele- gram calling France home because of his father's illness was received. It was held back until the close of the game, but then France left immediately for his home in Decatur, Ind. A message yesterday conveyed the sad intelligence to his friends that he had arrived too late to see hi father alive. France many friends sympathie deeply with him in his sad bereavement. OF INTEREST TO LOGES AND SOCIETIES, The old adage of having greatness thrust upon people can aptly be a - plied to this simple scheme, that the tmerchants whose names appear belov have combined to give some society in this city one of those $350 Ludwig pi- anos. As was stated in these columns last week, the winning society is de- termined on the 2th of February, 1900, by obtaining the greatest number of votes; universal suicrage is practical in this contest, and the only qualifica- tion necessary to vote is to pay csh for 10c. worth of gods at any of the business places of the firm mentioned. and of course 10 votes for $1.00, etc. Officers of societies should bring this scheme before the societies at once and encourage united effort.
