WE were somewhat surorised when we read Librarian Davis' communi- cation, which we print on another page. We hardly know how to account for the occurrence, unless it was the act of a person utterly igno- rant of the laws of the library, for we cannot conceive of a student who would maliciously do such a thing. If this act was done through ignor- ance let the Librarian's communica- tion serve as a warning and do not allow the report to spread that the students of the U. of M. have to be watched to prevent them from pil- fering, for we can characterize such conduct by no other words. WEDNESDAY evening the S. C. A, voted $75 to the libraryfund for the purpose of supplying its reading rooms with all the best periodicals. This is indeed a step in the right direction, for it will be the means of attracting many students who would otherwise spend their time else- where. We cannot impress too firmly upon the students, especially those who have come here for the first times the great benefit and help to be derived from close association and relationship with the S. C. A. At present no one need complain about the lack of comfortable quar- ters, as the Association now has the very best reading and reception rooms in the city and there seems to be no good reason .why the new students should not spend their time there every evening getting acquaint- ed and enjoying themselves. The reading rooms are open every even- ing till 9:30 and all friends of the Asbeiation are welcoe to make use of its advantages. Alpha i Prkeam. Etesic. R7 c President's addres ........---.W. P. Elaborate preparations are being made for the appearance of Miss Rose Coghlan at the Opera House Oct. 19th. Miss Coghlan will present for the first time in Ann Arbor a new comedy enti- tled "Dorothy's Dilemma." In this play Miss Coghlan is said to have a part which suits her in every way. The part of Dorothy, which Miss Coghlan impersonates, is said to be one of pure comedy, to which is added a touch of romance and sentiment, that permits on the part of Miss Coghlan a degree of light and shade in her acting she has not always had the opportuni- ty of displaying. The real interest in the play is ma e known in the second act. Miss Coghlan wears the disguise of a British officer, appearj'g In the accoutrements of a soldier. At this point in the play Miss Coghlan is in a dilemMa, and the gnlymeans of escape at hand Is to mount the horse of Jack Styles and ride home. which she does at a gallop, crossing the stage in full view of the audience. $2 50 per week; students assisted to positions.
