WHILE the, 'Thanksgiving trip has not been allentire success as far as victories are concerned, it has dem- onstrated very clerly to those who have watched the games, that the eleven of next year will be finest Michigan ever possessed. Not only this, but it will compare very favor- ably with any college team in the country, and if properly coached and captained, should play very close games with any team in the country, the big trio probably excepted. In the closing game of the season with Cornell at Chicago, Michigan played infinitely better foot-ball than at any time this season. The players tackled well, broke through Cornell's guard and block line repeatedly, and lined up with rapidity. Cornell was met by the same kind of playing which overcame Michigan at Detroit, and the playing was very much closer than the score, small as it is, indi- cates. The Cleveland game was a farce from beginning to end. The ball, in two instances, was within five yards of Cleveland's goal line when time was called, in the first half, three minutes short, and in the sec- ond half two minutes short. The playing was almost entirely in Cleve- land's territory. This game will have the effect of preventing any games being arranged in the future with elevens other than those repre- senting colleges. The Chicago and Cleveland games were both far from real foot-ball, and Michigan, in both cases, was unfairly treated. Cornell will, we believe, refuse to play Chi- cago again, because of the un-col- lege-like treatment to which they were subjected. The team went out of training after Saturday's game. There should be no delay in electing the captain for next year. It should be done immediately. Yale elects its captain either at the hotel immediately after the game or upon its return to New Haven. The eleven should meet either this evening or to-morrow evening and elect the captain for next season. In their choice the greatest care should be exercised. No player should be elected who is not sure of a position on next year's eleven. The players on this year's team have it in their power to say whether next year's foot-ball season shall be a successful one. We trust they will elect the proper man. Hobart Guild. Last Monday a class was formed among the young ladies of the Ho- bart Guild to receive instruction in physical training. This afternoon, at five o'clock, they will hold their first meeting under the direction o Mrs. Key. BUSINESS LOCALS. (Notices inserted in this column at the rate of 10 cents per line.
