The Alpha Nu Society will hold its preliminary debate Saturday night at which representatives will be chosen who will meet the Jeffersonian team. The subject to be debated will be: "Re- selved, That a system of referendum be adopted in state and municipal legisla- tion." Each member of the society who de- sires to speak on the question is asked to hand his name and side as soon as possible to Messrs. Diehl. Wistrand or Webster. Each man who takes tart in the debate will be allowed eight ini- utes to speak. The U. of M. Senate will hold its reg- ular session Saturday morning at 9 in Room 9, U. H. The business of the day will consist of a discussion of the bill for the election of senators by a popular vote and a consideration of the resolu- tion for the annexation of Hawaii. The meeting Saturday will be the last one before the annual election, which takes place June 4. The society has held some lively meetings the past sem.- ester, and has become more or less ac- customed to the necessary routine in conducting business according to U. S. Senate rules and customs. There are only a f ew vacancies in the member- ship roll, all of which will probably be filled before the end of the semester. The Adelphi Society has objected to the claim of the Alpha Nu that the lat- ter has defeated it in debate. The Adelphi holds that past records show if anything that superiority is to lie on its side. There has been no joint debate this year. One was anticipated and a subject chosen, but owing to a difficulty in selecting a date acceptable to both societies the proposed contest fell through. The coming debate ietween the Jeffersonian and the Attphia Nu in no way decides the superiority of the dipartments, as the Adelphi has not entered in the contest at all. The program for the Adelphi So iely Saturday night is as follows: Music, Mr. Charles Hurrey; impromptu, W. i. liar- rson; speech, "The Past, Precsnt and Future of Spain"; debate, "Resolved, That U. S. Senators should be electeJ by popular vote," to be led by H. .J. McCreary. The Women's League will hold its monthly reception Saturday, May 28, on the campus lawn north of the chemical building from 4 to i p m. If the weath- er is not favorable, it will be held in the women's building as formerly an- nounced. The 'Varsity will leave at 1:38, s an- dard, today over the Michigan Central for Chicago, where they will meet Chi- cago University tomorrow for the fourth game of the series. In the three games played. Michigan has won two, and the winning of tomorrow's game will give us the majority of the series. The 'Varsity las been playing great ball all week, and a large crowd should be, at the train to give them a rousing send-off. We still have a chance to superiority over all our show a superiority over all of our Western rivals, so everybody be on hand at 1:38 tomorrow.
