The graduate committee of the Cen- tral Debating League will hold a meet- ing in Chicago this week, when they will select the question for debate this coming year and send copies out to the colleges composing the league. Our de- bate with Northwestern will be held here on the second Friday in January, immediately after the holidays. Repre- sentatives of the university whose team wins in this contest will meet those from the winner of the Chicago-Minne- sta debate on an entirely new ques- tion in the final at Chicago. Mr. Alexander H. Revell and friends are t -be responsible for a testimonial of two hundred dollars to be given in the final contest. Minnesota and the N. 0. L. The University of Minnesota has made application to be admitted to the Northern Oratorical League. Although five of the universities of the league were ready to vote for her and only four are necessary, the qucstion was raised whether or not it would be bet- ter to wait as some representatives had not been instructed. A short interval of three weeks will be allowed to elapse before the vote is taken, but the neces- sary two-thirds vote is already assured. Minnesota wii oake up the complete number of seven to which the league is limited. Orations will probably be reduced by one hundred words so that the length of the entertainment will be practically the same as heretofore. University Batallon. The University Battalion held com- pany drill on the campus last night. Companies A and C are now fully or- ganized, the latter holding its election last night. The result was Clark, cap- tain; Barnhart, first lieutenant; Wien- bohr, second lieutenant; Young, first sergeant. Major McConkey has posted the 'election of Company B for. Wednes- day. The tie for Company D's elec- tion has not been posted yet. A marked improvement in the drill work of the Conkey is making arrangements where- by arms may be secured, and if any vol- unteer companies go to the front it will be those from the battalion, as prefer- ence has been accorded them. Play in Your Own Yard, Action has been taken by the Faculty Tennis Club reserving the use of their courts to themselves. During the time that elapsed from the destroying of the old Athletic Association courts and the construction of the new ones, the fac- ulty courts were generously thrown open to association members. But now the Athletic Association has its own courts and the members of the Faculty Club do not feel like spending time, la- bor and money to keep their courts in shape for the use of the general student pubhlic. It is not pleasant to order off or be ordered off, so students will please keep off and all unpleasantness will be avoid- ed. NOTICE. Parties having table board or rooms to rent during the May Festival will please leave address at the School of Music.
