The seniors held a stormy class meet- ing yesterday afternoon. The old ques- tion of the class tax came sip and whether the seniors as a class should support the reception. Fir a time it looked as if the friends of tor recepttos, would be obliged to carry out their plans unaided, but by a narrow niaJor- ity it was finally voted to tax each member of the class one dollar to go to- wards the class memorial; sixty cents from each member will be used for class day exercises,-asnd the renamainder of the tax will be used for incidentals. It was also decided not to aliow any reduction in the price of tickets for the nenior reception to members of the sen- ior class, as has been the custom in former yearn., The swing-out will take place next Tuesday, if the caps and gowns arrive in time. A recruiting officer has been appoint- ed and a company will probably be or- ganized here next week, consisting of those who are willing to go to the front. The company, if organized, will be sent immediately to the front. It will prob- ably be recruited from the companies now drilling on the camus. The men will be enlisted for the regular period, three years, but as the army is already above the number required for a peace footing, the company would be dis- charged as soon as the war was over. Before any of the men will be accepted they must undergo a strict physical ex- amination. Mr. Lister, of the medical department, has been appointed assist- ant medical examiner. Transportation has been secured from here to Fort Wayne, where the company, if orgaized. will be equipped. Captaim Roberts, the youngest captain in the Nineteenth, will command. The Game Today. Illinois, whonr the 'Varsity defeated in a great game on the spring trip by a score of 4 to 3 (ten innings), will make their only appearance of the season on Regents Field today. Illinois, like Chi- sago, always makes Michigan play the fastest article of ball she has. Last year, it will be remembered, Michigan defeated Illinois 7 to 3 on their grounds, but the return game resulted in a vic- tory - fir Illinois 3 to 0. The Sucker State representatives are determined to repeat the experience and today will present their strongest team. Since meeting Michigan the work of Illinois has improved, so say reports. Thurs- day they defeated De Pauw, one of the strongest teams in Indiana, 19 to 6. Michigan's work, too, has pisked up most gratifyingly since returning front the spring trip, and, it is believed, will give the visitors a battle royal. The 'Varsity took regular work yes- terday and will line up as follows; Lunn, c.; Miller, p.; Condon, lb.; Cooley, Ib.; Gilbert, s..; Wolf, 3b.; Matteson, If.; McGinnis, m.; Butler, rf. The contest is. one of the scheduled Western Intercollegiate League games and will be called promptly at 3 o'clock. PhilosophIcal Socety. The Philosophical Society is expect- ing to hold a meeting soon. The pro- gram so far this semester has been quite irregular owing to the impossibil- ity of several of the faculty members to fulfill their engagememits. Papers bave been promised by Professors Wen- key Walter and Scott, and it is hoped to have the next meeting early this month. It is not yet announced what the subject for the meeting wilt be.
