The University of Michigan Alumni Association is sending out circulars for the purpose of increasing its member- ship and to find out whether its mem- bers want a banquet. If the replies in- dicate that the banquet is desired by the members, notice will be immediate- ly sent out stating the exact date and other details. Associate members may procure tickets for, this banquet on payment of $4. It is proposed to enter- tain the Acting-President and such oth- er members of the faculty as may ac- cept their hospitality. Invitations will also be sent to men of prominence who will be invited to deliver short speeches on this occasion. The following information concerning the association is reprinted from the circular in the hope that it may be of interest to Michigan students: This society is divided into three classes: Life members, regular memn- hers and asociate members. Any one is eligible to membership who has studied one year in the Uni- vrsity of Michigan. Associate members pay one dollar in- itiation fee and one dollar per year lues. They are always welcome at all the meetings of the association, but are not entitled to vote. Regular members pay $5 initiation fee and $5 yearly dues, which entitles them to vote on all questions and to a seat at the yearly banquet. Life members pay $50, which covers initiation fee and all subsequent dues, and entitles them always to a seat at the banquet, and to all the privileges f the association, and to vote on all mat- ters pertaining to it. An associate member may become a regular member at any time by paying the fees of that class of membership, and is entitled to purchase a ticket for the banquet, if he desires. The object of having three classes of membership must be apparent to all. By this arrangement every one can identify himself with this association, and take such active part in its man- agement as he may see lit. A smker is generally held just be- fore the football game, which takes place on Thanksgiving day, and other greetings of this kind may be called when favorable opportunity demands.
