Hail, of the depart- ment of astronomy, gave the Daily some interesting facts the other even- ing regarding the coming bombard- ment of celestial bodies. While the event is of no great importance scien- tifically, the weird show will create a great deal of interest throughout the world. Regarding the history of this great sream of meteors, and the theory ad- vanced in its explanation, Prof. Hall said that it first appeared in 1833, and that the theory advanced by astron- omers is that a large comet burst into incalcuable billions of individuals which continued to follow the comets around the sun. Once in thirty three years this vast stream-a stream so long that it takes from three to five years to pass a given point, and so broad that the earth is from six to eight hours sweeping across it-meets the earth's orbit. The second great shower was seen in 1866 and the next heavy shower is predicted for Novem- least the sight of a phenomenon of this stamp will well repay a loss of a few hours sleep.
