Philosophical Societe.
The Philosophical Society will
meet for organization soonI. Some
delay in calling the first meeting has
been doe to the absence from college
this year of some of its oldest and
most active mnembers. However,
other interested members propose to
take the matter of reorganaization in
charge and call a meeting for that
cad as soon as poosible.
Regular meetings iwill be held dur-
ing the coming year, as is the customa
of the seciety. Most of thlose ill
probably be in chiarge oif thte students
themselves, tlaought addresoes from
members of the faculty will ulndoubt-
edly be given from time to time. It
is also hoped to secure s011e distin-
guished representatives of tile saab-
ject to lecture on special sulbjectso tf
interest to those takinlg philosophical
work.
Among the lecturers last year were
Profs. Caldwell, of Nortlawesterit;
Gilman, of Meadville; Dr. Carus, of
Chicago, and Mr. Mead, editor of thte
New England Magazine. Also a suc-
cessful meeting was held *in whlichI
the subject of the relation of classics
to philosophy was discusseil. It is
probable that joint meetings with
other departlmelats may also be se-
cured and the qtaestiou as to tlae
relation of philosophty to the various
sciences, and arts be discussed. An
announcement of thce plans for the
year will be published later.
President Charles Kendall Adams,
of Wisconsiu university, was in town
yesterday.
