The A merican School for Classical Studies in Rome, is just closing its fourth year. It has been conducted at an expense of $7,500 a year, the money being raised by subscription. Three fellowships are held open to American students. This year one is held by W. W. Bishop, a gradu- ate of the University. The execu- tive committee voted at their meeting held last week, for an improvement in the school that will increase the annual expenses from $7,500 to $11,- 000, the additional funds being sub- scribed in the east. Prof. Minton Warren, of John's Hopkins university, is to be sent to Rome as resident director of the school. He was authorized to ap- point a professor of art and archaeo- logy to assist him. Prof Warren is one of the foremost Latin scholars of the country. OTIS SKINNER AT THE ATHENS. The most significant announcement that has been made during the current dramatic season is the appearance of Otis Skinner and his company at the Athens Theatre tonight, in Carson and Parker's comedy, "Rosemary." This is unquestionably the most important play Mr. Skinner has ever presented to his admirers in Ann Arbor as it has achieved an unusual triumph at the Criterion Theatre, London, and at the Empire Theatre, New York. The orig- inal Empire Theatre production is be- ing used by Mr. Skinner for his tour, and, in the leading part, that of Sir Jasper Thorndyke, he has a character even more attractive than his fascinat- ing creation of Prince Eudolf, which charmed our theatre goers last season. The cast enlists the services of a large number of metropolitan favorites. Mr. Skinner's great popularity here in- sures an enthusiastic reception and a crowded house.
