In a class con- test there will be more inducement for men to compete. As many who would not play for their own honor, will be anxious to represent their class. Already there has been mucho interest shown in the class champion- ship plan. No definite arrangements have been made but after the full list of entries is in, the dates and prizes will be announced. The smaller departments should make special efforts to be represented in this contest. Wrinkle Out Yesterda. The best edition of Wrinkle which has appeared this year, came out yesterday. The jokes are mores numerous, spicier and fresher than in any of the previous single numbers. The cuts also are improved both artistically and humorously. The excellent center page by MeGeorge iso ertiled "The Wheels of Debate are Grinding. " The cover page shows two young men who express their opinions in regard to the five mile limit. The committee having charge of the Fruit and Flower Mission dance which occurs this week wish it dis- tinctly understood that it is to lie an informal affair. They did a great favor by postponing their dance and deserve an added patronage in re- turn. The music of the song 'Hush-a- Bye--Close Yo Eye," sung by Isa- dore Rush of Roland Reed's Com. pany Moday night, was composed by Louis Elbel, and the words written by his brother Mr. Richard Elbel, of South Bend, Indiana., The women's gymnasium is slowly being finished and equipped with more elaborate apparatus. The latest additions are travelling and swinging rings which will be used by the mem- hers of the third year class. Prof. Francis Kelsey is in New York attending a meeting of the board of control of the American school at Athens. Prof. Kelsey is vice-president of the board. "The young men of this genera- tion are in greater danger of being led away in the false path, in this re- gard, than those who lived isoformer tisnes were. They need, therefore, the most carefully and constantly to open their minds to the higher in- fluences of a university life. "May I not also say that they owe it to the best interests of the country and of the future to keep alive these higher influences. The student's work is the student's life, and no higher obligation rests upon him than to pass on to other generations the true spirit which has been trans- mitted to himself." OLYMPIC GAMES. The Contests to Be Held at the Paris Exposition. The committee in charge of the games to be held at the Paris Ex- position in 1900 has published a preliminary program of the events. Games in every department of ath- letics are included in the following headings: Field athletics, gynias- tics, fencing, aquatics, bicyling, polo, games, climbing, archery, and skat- ing. Each of these headings is sub- divided into a number of separate sections. Under field athletics the following events are enumerated: Races of 100, 400, 800 and 1,500 meters; a hurdle race of 110 meters, broad and high jumps, pole vault, shot-put, discus and hammer throw- ing, and a general athletic champi- onship. Gymnastics include competitions on the horizontal bar, rings, parallel bars, rope climbng,, vaulting horse and weight lifting. Fencing is divided into contests in boxinog, foils, sabre asd sword, sisgle stick, and wrestling, Swiss and Roman style. Under aquatics are included yacht races, rowig races of 2,400 meters for two, four and eight-oared shells; swimming contests of 100, 500 and 1000 meters; water polo and diving and life-saving contests. The bicycling events consist of a 2,000 meter race without pacemak- ers; a race of 100 kilometers with pacemakers, and 3000 meter unpaced races for tandens. Polo, climbing, and archery con- tain several contests, and there will be a number of skating races of vari- ous lengths.
