Th articles are exceptionllly fine, and of a more substantial character than usual. The leading article is by Dr. Max Winkler, of the German departmn it' on "A Few. Thoughts on Contemporary German Realism." The article is long and a very able one. Dr. Winkler is perhaps as well qualified to discuss this subject as any one in the Univer- sity both from his fuil acquaintance with German literature and his famil- iarity with Gern'1y itself.- Another paper of unusual iiterest is one on "The Developiiment of the character of Marcella," by Margaret E. Barrette. This gives a very full and in the main satisfactory analysis of the character of Mrs. Ward's hero- ine. Mr. Wilcox has an article on "Democracy in the Schools,"-a sug- gestive subject which is well treated. Two stories are furnished by H. M. Bowman and "H1. H. S.," anl the verse contributions are by F. P. Dan- iels and H. M. Bowman. As a whole the number is one of the best yet is- sued.
