The prospects of the '95 Oracle are reported to be all that would be asked for, and it is probable that an unusually artistic and highly literary volume will be issued. Another point is that The Oracle board ex- pects to have the book out on time, i. e., a week before the Christmas recess. Advertisements are rapidly coming in and contributions for the prizes are beginning to arrive. A specially fine cover design will be used. There seems to be some misunder- standing in regard to prize No. 3, a $ao guitar, banjo, or mandolin for the best class song. The word song was used in the musical sense and was intended to mean the musical composition, not the words. Several are working for this prize as it should have been understood after reading Rule 7 in The Oracle's printed an- nouncement. The grind committee has been appointed. Arrangements are being made to hold all business meetings in room a, Newberry Hall. FOOTBALL PRACTICE. Practice on the campus grows more interesting daily. The scrub game yesterday, we venture to assert, was the hottest contested battle that has ever been fought out on the grounds. The feature of the occa- sion was the excellent work of the second eleven. It took the first eleven 20 minutes to get the ball over the line for the first touch- down. The work of several of the second team elicited much com- mendatory remarks from the spec- tators. Bairds tackling evoked applause on two or three occasions. AN inqairy has been made through our columns, whether or not the New Firm, New Goods, and Low Prices. There is notliing like a SLIM FIGURE to put it in motion. During the past year Harvard has received gifts and bequests amount- ing to over $500,000. There are 175 new students at Vassar this year. BUSINESS LOCALS. To rent, a nice hall and rooms at 12 E.
