DEAR DIALOGUE: My grand
mother used to tell me she drank
cranberry juice to ward off urinary
tract infections. Is there anything
to it? I'm having a problem now.
. R.R., Washington, DC
DEAR R.R.: It's one of those folk
remedies that has never been
widely accepted by medics. But
now there's evidence from a group
of Boston-based scientists who
carried on a test with elderly
women. Those who drank a daily
glass of cranberry cockt,ail' (the
straight juice is too bitter to
drink), seemed to develop fewer
infections than a control group
that did not drink the juice. It's
worth a try.
DEAR DIALOCUE: During the
summer my hair d rie out and
bec me a funny col r. Any tips

a hat that shades your hair when
you are out for prolonged periods.
DEAR DIALOGUE: My mother,
aunts and grandmother always
burped babies after feeding. Now it
seems my sisters don't burp their
babies so much. Who's right? I'm
expecting.
R. T., Charleston, WV
DEAR R.T.: Maybe everybody. All
babies swallow some air while
feeding. A bubble of air in the
stomach can make a baby feel fun
and uncomfortable enough to stop
eating. By encouraging a burp-by
rubbing and patting the back
room is made for more food and
the baby feels omfortable again.
