In July 1991, the Michigan
Department of Public Health re­
ceived a five-year, $3 million-
p r-year grant from the U.S.
Center for Disease Control un­
der the new federal Title XV
law. Money will-be used to im­
plement a women's cancer con­
trol program. Local health
departments will be able to give
low-income women acc s to
lifesaving breast cancer screen- .
ing services and follow-up care.

gram is targeted-especially to
low-in me women aged 40 and
older. Federal funds are avail­
able to local health departments

no cost to uninsured women

women whos income range up
to 250 percent of the federal pov­
erty I vel.
Women with insurance also
can be served by this program,
and their insurer will be billed
for services provided. If their in-
urance does not oover one or
more of the services, they may
be eligible for free or reduced­
cost servi _, depending upon
their income.
As of March 1994-, 25 local
health departments serving 50
Michigan counties and the city
of Detroi t re offering th
services.
