According to Clarenc Budz
in i, who live on Buffalo
Str t, in the 1980 Conrail bur
ied a number of railro d ties
next to the railroad tracks at
Phyllis and Buffalo. He aid a
tate agency made Conrail dig
up the ti becau e of an obnox
iou odor which could have been
a health hazard.
However, according to Dipo
Oyinsan, supervisor with the
tate' Environmental Re
pon e Di vi ion, there i no
tate record that the event
transpired. He said, "We don't
find anything on file at that
site. "
N verthel , Don Kazmier-
ski, an activi t with the Kraniz
Woods Neighborhood A ocia
tion, who lived in the area dur
ing the 1980s, he "complained
about the ties being buried
there."
"My complaint was the ditch
was seeping water and it
melled like sulphur," he said.
"Someone must know about it
b cause they made them cover
it (the ditch) real up quick."
BUDZIN KI AY , at this
time, the only odor he is detect
ing is from a cement factory on
o w
evad which i directly behind
th prison. But, he d

pri one in the yard playing
ba k tball (and other gam )
but you can h r them wring
too," he aid. "It' horrible. I
don't hav ny kid but th peo
pl down th block do ha little
kid . They (pri on official)
gotta put a wall up, a fence don't,

Budzinski contends that if
pri oners were able to cut
through the existing fence, by
raising it to 12 f and putting
in towers will not prevent them
from doing it again.
The 66-year -old resident
ha lived on Buffalo for the pa t
27 years. He does not believe the
tate i going to close the prison
and says a wall and other secu
rity measures are needed. In the
meantime, Sara Rayford, the
p ident of the Krainz Woode
eighborhood Organization
said the organization has re
tained a lawyer and that he has
filed with the courts to close the
prison. Vowing that the organi
za tion will accept nothing less
than closure, Rayford said the
re idents are seriously consid
ering demonstrating to let the
tate know that we are serious
about this matter.
Krainz Woods and repre
sentatives from the U-Four Coa
lition will meet with pri on
official in early October to di -
